CLIMA Y TRANQUILIDAD

Ha sido llamada esta isla "Continente en Miniatura" y es digna de tal apelativo ya que presenta tal variedad geológica que, a pocos kilómetros de carretera , se pasa de las dunas desérticas del Sur , a las altitudes alpinas de su macizo central ; de los bravíos acantilados del Norte , a las suaves playas de Maspalomas o Las Canteras ; de las floridas vegas de San Mateo o Santa Brígida , al colosal espectáculo de la Caldera de Bandama , cráter apagado en cuyo fondo crece abundante la vid ; desde los espesos pinares de las cumbres a las zonas costeras donde estalla el verdor de las plataneras.

La benignidad de su clima permite que en ella se encuentren desde los más sabrosos frutos tropicales y subtropicales , a los propios de climas más fríos , que abundan en las zonas medias y altas.

El Verano , el Otoño y el Invierno son desconocidos en Gran Canaria ; la Primavera es la estación dominante durante todo el año en la costa y las medianías . Solamente en las altitudes de las cumbres se puede encontrar agazapado el invierno , por lo que basta una hora de automóvil para pasar de una soleada playa donde el sol reina todo el año , a un lugar donde el termómetro marca la diferencia de este " Continente en Miniatura".

The name of "Continent in Miniature " is well deserved by this island , presenting as it does such a geological variety ; in a few milles one passes from desert dunes of the South to the alpine-like heights of its central massif ; from the wild cliffs of the North , to the caressing beaches of Maspalomas or Las Canteras ; from the flower strewn valleys of San Mateo or Santa Brígida , to the gigantic spectacle of the Caldera de Bandama , and extinguished crater from the depths of wich wines grow in abundance ; from the thick pine growes on the mountain tops to the coastal zones where the lush green of the banana plantations bursts forth . The benign climate allows the growth of the most succulent tropical and subtropical fruit ; in the temperate and high zones one also finds fruit wich normaly grows only in colder climates .

Summer , Autumn and Winter are unknown on Gran Canaria . Spring dominates all year round in the coastal and temperates areas .

Only on the heights of the mountain tops can one find winter hidden , so that in a short hour´s drive one can leave behind the warm beaches where the sun reigns all year round , and reach a locality where the thermometer clearly shows the different climates in this "Continent in Miniature".

Diese Insel wird als " Miniaturkontinent" bezeichnet und hat diesen Namen dank der geologischen Unterschiede verdient , die , angefangen von den wüstenähnlichen Dünen im Süden der Insel bis zu den alpinen Höhen des Zentral Massivs , auf nur wenige Kilometer Strasse verteilt , sichtbar sind ; Von den wilden Felsküsten des Nordens bis zu den sanften Stränden von Maspalomas und Las Canteras ; von den blühenden Auen von San Mateo oder Santa Brígida bis zum fabelhaften Schauspiel des Bandama-Kessels , in dessen erloschenen Kratergrund zahlreiche Reben Wachsen ; von den dichten Fichtenwäldern auf den Gebirgskämmen bis zu den Küstenstrichen , wo sich das Grün der Bananenhaine ausbreitet .

Das milde Klima erlaubt , dass auf dieser Insel die köstlichsten tropischen und subtropischen Früchte zu finden sind , abgesehen von jenen der kälteren Klimazonen , die in den mittleren und hohen Regionen wachsen .

Sommer , Herbst und Winter sind unbekannt auf Gran Canaria ; Frühling ist die vorherrschende Jahreszeit an der Küste und in den mittleren Ebenen . Nur in den höchsten Gebirgskämmen kann man versteckten Winter antreffen . Es genügt somit eine einstündige Autofahrt , um von einem sommerlichen Badestrand , wo die Sonne das ganze Jahr Königin ist , an einen Ort zu gelangen , an dem das Thermometer die Unterschiedlichkeit dieses MiniaturKontinents an zeigt.
